8/17/2023 0 Comments Mac shutdown command![]() ![]() With this in mind, turning on your Mac from a complete shutdown will require 4.05W every time, while waking it from sleep mode will only require 3.88W. After turning on the display, it quickly shoots up to 4.16W. The same 14-inch MacBook Pro we mentioned consumes around 0.11W when turned off. When you start your Mac back up, the power has to work harder to turn everything back on. This is because when you shut down your Mac, the circuitry that controls the flow of electricity is also turned off. It takes more power to boot up a Mac from scratch than to leave it in Sleep mode. Thus, shutting down your Mac every now and then helps make sure everything is working as it should. In our previous blogs about speeding up and maintaining macs, we also recommended rebooting your Mac for better performance. Some macOS updates will also require you to shut down your Mac. When apps and processes clog up your RAM, shutting down your Mac is the best way to give your Mac the clean slate it needs. Shutting down is the go-to solution for computers that are acting up for a reason. To shut down your Mac, go to the Apple menu and select “ Shut Down.” Remember to wait for your screen to be completely black to ensure a proper shutdown. It takes longer to boot up and get your mac to its optimum performance because your computer has to load everything back into the RAM again. ![]() Starting up again means firing up all these apps and reloading documents. When you shut down your Mac completely, everything stored in the RAM is cleared out. If you’re energy-conscious, that’s only an additional $0.11 per year, even if you leave it sleeping for 10 hours a day. Macs consume very little energy while on sleep mode, even when performing maintenance tasks.Ĭase in point: a 14-inch MacBook Pro in Sleep Mode only takes up 0.28W. Power ConsumptionĪll current activity is stored in the RAM during sleep mode, which doesn’t require a lot of power to maintain. However, new Macs with Apple Silicon processors do not have a power nap feature because of their “always-on” processor– much like mobile devices which never really sleep. When you enable Power Nap, the following processes will run in the background during sleep mode because it’s more resourceful to do so when the MacBook isn’t being used: This feature is automatically enabled and is called the “Power Nap” feature. Putting your Mac to sleep is important because macs are programmed to run necessary maintenance tasks during Sleep mode. Click on the Apple menu at the top left of your screen and select “ Sleep.”.You can put your mac to sleep by doing any of the following: Sleep mode allows you to quickly pick up where you left off, with new Apple Silicon Macs even able to “wake up” instantly. If you have “Wake for network access” selected in Energy Saver preferences, your Mac will wake up when it detects an incoming network request. Your Mac will also continue to receive emails, instant messages, and FaceTime calls. For example, if you have scheduled backups or downloads set up, they will continue even when your Mac is in Sleep mode. Your Mac goes into a low-power state but can still perform some tasks during sleep mode. ![]() 8/17/2023 0 Comments Megabyte to byte![]() ![]() 366,503,875,925 digital pictures (with 3 MB average file size).357,913,941 digital pictures (with 3 MB average file size).349,525 digital pictures (with 3 MB average file size).655,360 web pages (with 1.6 MB average file size).341 digital pictures (with 3 MB average file size).640 web pages (with 1.6 MB average file size).873 pages of plain text (1,200 characters). ![]() NibbleĪ megabyte is 1,048,576 bytes or 1,024 kilobytes. ![]() BitĪ bit is a value of either a 1 or 0 (on or off). By concentrating on Goldsworthy’s work in Stone in different locales, one could see the connections between disparate works, and understand the artist’s consistent investigation. In addition, the exhibition included examples from Goldsworthy’s major commissions at Runnymeade Sculpture farm, California, and at Lautnier Sculpture Park, St. Different locales where Goldsworthy has made important works with stone are Japan, Britain, Australia however, this exhibition was comprised of works he had recently made in the United States (San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Santa Barbara, Central Park in New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania). Works with stone were broadly interpreted in the exhibition and included: stone with leaves, stone with water, stone with sand, stone with petals all an exploration of the ways stone inform us about nature. Stone represents an element which is immovable and specific to place and upon which one can see the marks of time. The exhibition concentrated on Stone, as it is one of the materials most integral to Goldsworthy’s work and one of the essential structures in nature. Since the late 1970’s, Goldsworthy has been using organic materials such as earth, stone, leaves, water, snow, ice and petals as sculptural elements, freely accepting the changing conditions that weather and time has upon them. ![]() Andy Goldsworthy: Stone Work in America investigates the artist’s on-going relationship to nature and specifically, stone, one of the key building materials of our physical world. 8/17/2023 0 Comments Mac folder backup software![]() ![]() If you wish to choose backup folders manually, Backup and Restore won't allow the backup of files in the Recycle Bin, data stored on FAT-formatted drives, temp files on small drives (below 1GB), disks and partitions without a drive letter, or files in Windows System folders. If you want to initiate a customized backup, you can interrupt the default option, but that comes with another drawback. To back up critical files, they must be placed in one of the default folders first. The default backup folders for Backup and Restore (as well as for File History) are Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Desktop, and any offline OneDrive data stored on the PC. If you "let Windows choose" what to back up, it will do so for all default folders unless you interrupt it. Firstly, Backup and Restore offers only two backup options: "Let Me Choose" and "Let Windows Choose". The feature serves several purposes similar to File History but has a few crucial limitations. Microsoft offers another way to go about Windows PC backup, and that is the Backup and Restore feature. However, File History backups are stored within the PC, so they won't be any good if your PC is somehow corrupted, stolen, suffers physical damage, or is hit by a ransomware attack. ![]() If you don't need to back up extensive amounts of data, File History may be enough to keep important files and folders secure. With File History, users can initiate intuitive partial backups and save local file copies relatively easily. ![]() The native backup tool for Windows PCs is called "File History". However, data creation habits differ for home users and companies, so you should create a backup schedule that suits your backup needs optimally. Generally, it's best to initiate a full PC backup once a month (for home users) and once a week (for businesses), combined with daily incremental backups to ensure all new data is available for recovery. Full PC backups duplicate all data on a machine, while incremental and differential backups only backup data that you’ve modified since the last backup, be it full or incremental. Users and companies can initiate full system, incremental, or differential backups, depending on their data creation habits and storage capabilities. Moreover, reliable backup software can compress data backups to optimize storage space, allow version control to maintain different file versions, and often comes with enhanced cybersecurity features to safeguard your data at rest and in transit. Robust backup software will transmit data copies over a secure internal network or the Internet to a local or remote backup server to ensure the 3-2-1 Rule of Backup. Enterprise-level PC backup usually covers each PC on the network to back up selected files and folders regularly on a customizable schedule to minimize downtime. Users can store the backups on the same PC (not recommended), on an external hard drive, USB flash drive, remote server, or on the cloud. ![]() (including servers and networking devices) Home user backup typically backs up selected files, folders, and critical operating system data. You can initiate data backups on local/home computers or back up all PCs on an enterprise-level network. PC backup software is primarily used to keep backups of critical data residing on your PC or network drives. Backup software allows users to create an exact copy of their files and store them in secure storage so they'd always be readily available for data recovery in case of accidental deletion, natural disaster, power outage, or a cyberattack. PC backup software refers to all applications that enable users to back up files, folders, documents, software, configuration data, and your PC and server/system. ![]() ![]() If you are planning on practicing archery, than you can bet that having one of Medieval Archery's hip quivers mounted at your side is one of the best ways to keep your arrows within easy reach. 8/17/2023 0 Comments Wall mounted fire proof safe![]() ![]() You can find wall safes with digital memories that record every attempt to access the safe as well as safes that will emit an alarm if an unauthorized person attempts to open them. All that said, tall and narrow wall safes for long gun storage are available, and a few deeper safes install in 2X8 walls, but since this is not standard framing, you may have to hire a contractor to build a wall this deep. The stud space’s depth will be either 4 inches in a 2×4 wall or 6 inches in a 2×6 wall, making wall safes relatively shallow the depth measurement factors in the thickness of 0.5-inch drywall, which is standard on residential walls.Īllowing for the room taken up by the safe’s steel walls, the interior depth may be as little as 3 inches. ![]() Standard residential stud spacing is 16 inches from the center of one stud to the center of the next, which leaves only 14.5 inches of space between the studs. Wall safes are typically fairly small because residential construction standards limit the width and depth of the space in which they sit. Still, within this category, a range of quality is found, from lightweight steel safes that can be pried open with a crowbar, to heavier-gauge safes with multiple locking bars and pry-resistant doors. Wall safes are not quite as secure, on average, as freestanding safes because wall safes have less room to include thicker, fire-safe walls. The quality of a wall safe depends on its construction and the strength of its locking mechanism. Safe interiors vary and may contain foam with cutouts designed to hold various handguns or fabric shelf lining to protect the jewelry from becoming scratched. The exterior steel may be powder coated to reduce the risk of rust and corrosion. Heavy-gauge steel and steel alloys are the materials of choice for most of today’s wall safes. If you forget a combination, having a key to open the lock will save you a locksmith’s fee. Keyed lock: Sometimes the only lock on a wall safe is a keyed lock, although often a key is a backup for another type of lock, such as a combination dial or a numerical keypad. The keypad is usually powered by a battery that can be replaced without opening the safe. Numerical keypad: Common on many of today’s safes, a numerical keypad requires the user to enter a four- to eight-digit code in sequence. The user spins the dial once or twice and then turns it back and forth to a preset combination to open the lock. Combination dial: This is the same type of lock still found on many school gym lockers, and it has a tried-and-true history of keeping valuables safe.Depending on the model, multiple fingerprints or retinal scans can be stored in the memory to allow a range of users access. Biometric: This type of locking mechanism requires only a fingerprint or retinal scan to open the safe, making it the quickest and easiest to open.Consider which of the following types best suits your home and security needs. Wall safes come with four main types of locks, each with pros and cons. A wall safe, which sits between framing studs, is relatively shallow (less than 5 inches deep) and can be disguised by hanging a piece of art over it. Photo: What to Consider When Choosing the Best Wall Safeįor many who invest in a wall safe, the desire to keep the safe out of sight is nearly as important as keeping the interior contents secure. Wall safes are designed to fit within the standard 14.5-inch space between wall studs with the front of the safe flush with the surface of the wall. Then, once the goods are locked up, the safe itself can be concealed from view with a mirror or painting, making it far more secure than a desk drawer or jewel box atop a dresser. Wall safes are installed by cutting a hole in the drywall with a drywall saw, sliding the safe into the space, and then bolting the sides of the safe (from the inside) to the adjacent wall studs. These clever devices are designed to fit recessed between wall studs, offering ample space to stow small valuables. ![]() If you keep precious jewelry, documents, and/or heirlooms at home, you may want to conceal these items in a wall safe. ![]() 8/17/2023 0 Comments Filezilla android![]() Now press “Set User,” then create a username and password to access your files. It’s up to you which option you go for however, disabling anonymous access will ensure no one else can connect to your Android. Then decide whether to enable or disable anonymous access. Tap the three-dotted menu icon at the top right corner. On your Android, open Solid File Explorer, press the hamburger icon, and then choose “FTP Server.”.Once FileZilla and Solid File Explorer or similar apps are installed, here are the steps to transfer your files from Android to Mac: On your Android device, you’ll need to download and install a file explorer like Solid File Explorer to create the FTP server. There are plenty of alternatives, but we’ll use FileZilla to demonstrate. FileZilla is amongst the best and most popular used. It can be used to transfer between computer systems or over the internet.įirst, to share files between Android and macOS, you’ll need an FTP client on your Mac. File Transfer Protocolįile Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard communication protocol used to download, upload, and transfer files from one location to another. When prompted on your Mac, accept the transfer.įiles received on your Mac will go to the location you stated in “System Preferences,” “Sharing,” then “Bluetooth Sharing.” Or in the default folder “Downloads.” To send files from Mac to Android using this method, check out the “How to Share Files From Mac to Android Phone” section above.Tap “Bluetooth” as the transfer method, then select your Mac.On your Android device, find and tap on the file you wish to send to your Mac.Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your Android device and Mac.For example, an image file sent from Mac should show up in the Photos app on your Android device. The files you receive on your Android will be available under the relevant default files app or other related folders. Tap “Accept” on your Android device to receive the incoming transfer.Click on your paired Android device you wish to send it to, then click “Send” again.Find and click on the file you wish to send, then click “Send.”.Navigate to “Applications” then “Utilities” to open the “Bluetooth File Exchange” app.Follow these steps to send files from Mac to your Android device: Luckily, “Bluetooth File Exchange,” the built-in app, can get the job done. Although macOS has a similar share menu to Android, Bluetooth isn’t an option in the list of available transfer methods. The method for file sharing using Bluetooth on your Mac is slightly different. To complete the pairing, click “Connect” on your Mac. On your Android device, choose your Mac by going to “Settings” then “Bluetooth,” and the passcode will appear on both screens. Here you can choose the location for received files and what to do with incoming file transfer requests. On your Mac, go to “System Preferences” then “Sharing,” enable the “Bluetooth Sharing” option. Also, enable it on your Android device in “Settings” then “Bluetooth.”.On your Mac, go to the menu bar or “System,” “Preferences,” then “Bluetooth” to enable Bluetooth.Follow these steps to pair your Mac and Android device: To avoid this problem, you will have to open the settings of filezilla, on the FTP node, search for the FPT Keep-live section and check the checkbox "Send FTP keep-alive commands":Īs its warning specifies that no server should require this configuration, so if for some reason this is happening on your own server, you should check the SSH settings on your server.First, you’ll need to pair your Mac to your Android device, which only needs to be done once as they’ll remain paired until you unpair them. ![]() That's it, you will see the followingError: FATAL ERROR: Network error: Software caused connection abort.
